It’s no secret that Texas puts out some of the best, if not the best, crop of quarterbacks in the country.
College teams from all over recruit this state to find the next leader of their offense. This year is no different.
The 2021 class of quarterbacks is deep, with plenty of arm talent to go around.
Here are my rankings for the upcoming class, taking into account accomplishments, ceiling and current skills. Recruiting rankings are according to 247 Sports Composite at 247sports.com.
1. Preston Stone
Dual Threat, 6’2, 205 lbs.
Dallas Parish Episcopal
4-Star, #88 Nationally, #5 Dual Threat
Preston Stone is a dude. Hes a multiyear starter and highly recruited prospect. He doesn’t have elite speed for a dual threat but has evasive speed and quickness. Great pocket awareness and handles duress very well. Always keeps his eyes down the field while extending plays. Anticipates throws with accuracy, quick release, and good arm strength. At 6 feet, 2 inches and 205 pounds, he has good size with potential to be a multiyear starter at the next level. He has the least amount of weaknesses. Currently committed to SMU.
2. Jalen Milroe
Dual Threat, 6’1, 195 lbs.
Katy Tompkins
4-Star, #80 Nationally, #4 Dual Threat
Milroe is an elite-level talent and truly a dual threat. His body and athleticism have matured well up until this point. He has great speed and plays a very competitive brand of football. Extends plays with his feet and moves the chains regularly. He has a strong arm with great velocity. He needs to work on his accuracy but is still very young in his development. 2019 District 19-6A MVP. Currently committed to Texas.
3. Eli Stowers
Dual Threat, 6’4, 215 lbs.
Denton Guyer
4-Star, #144 Nationally, #7 Dual Threat
Stowers not only has performed well, but hes also a winner. At 6 feet, 4 inches, he has a good frame to build with. Stowers already has good arm strength and dual threat capability with good speed. He has arguably the highest ceiling of all the quarterbacks because of his athletic ability and size. Lacks accuracy at times and needs to work on his feet. With college level coaching and some physical maturity, Stowers has the potential to be a weapon at the next level. Currently committed to Texas A&M.
4. Dematrius Davis
Dual Threat, 5’11, 190 lbs.

4-Star, #118 Nationally, #6 Dual Threat
Davis is a winner and flat out football player. How do you keep a two-time 6A state champion off the list? You don’t. Sure, Davis doesn’t have ideal size for a college quarterback, but aren’t we finally getting over that in this game? Davis has great quickness and awareness with good arm strength. People like to compare him to D’Eriq King but only because of the size comparison. He is a little more stout than King, and doesn’t have the same top-end speed either. Davis is currently committed to Virginia Tech.
5. Garrett Nussmeier
Pro Style, 6’1, 180 lbs.
Flower Mound Marcus
4-Star, #132 Nationally, #7 Pro Style
Garrett is scouted as a pro-style quarterback, but that doesn’t hold him back from improvising in the pocket. He has good enough athletic ability to get around and extend plays. At 180 pounds, he needs to develop more and should continue to work on his athletic ability. He has good accuracy, anticipates throws and good feet. He holds offers from LSU and Texas just to name a couple. He is set to make a commitment decision in April.
6. Kaidon Salter
Dual Threat, 6’1, 185 lbs.
Cedar Hill
4-Star, #246 Nationally, #9 Dual Threat
Salter’s stock is probably rising faster than any quarterback right now. He has offers coming in from Auburn, Ole Miss and Michigan State. True dual-threat capability with good arm strength. Great at extending plays and moving the chains when plays break down. Needs to work on release and accuracy but should develop these skills as he develops his body. A strong senior season could continue his climb up the rankings.
7. Shedeur Sanders
Pro Style, 6’2, 200 lbs.
Cedar Hill Trinity Christian
4-Star, #236 Nationally, #14 Pro Style
Sanders is rated as a pro-style quarterback, but he’s clearly a dual threat. He has good speed, pocket awareness and scrambling ability. Developed well as a passer with a good release, arm strength and accuracy, and he’s light on his feet. His accuracy can be inconsistent at times, but he makes some great throws. He should be ranked higher than he is currently. Sanders holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Florida State.
8. Sawyer Robertson
Pro Style, 6’3, 190 lbs.
Lubbock Coronado
4-Star, #173 Nationally, #9 Pro Style
Robertson is another one with a high ceiling. He has good arm strength and pretty good accuracy. He’s not the dual-threat quarterback that a lot of teams look for, but he can move around well enough. Needs to develop his feet, release and athletic ability to take the next step. Robertson’s frame, accuracy and arm strength make him a great prospect for the college game. Holds offers from Mississippi State, Texas and Arkansas.
9. Behren Morton
Dual Threat, 6’2, 185 lbs.
Eastland
4-Star, #230 Nationally, #8 Dual Threat
Morton’s big knock is the fact that he plays in Class 3A. However, if you watch him play, you can clearly see his ability. He moves around really well and extends plays. Pretty good feet and release with accuracy. Morton could improve his arm strength, but that should improve as he develops. The kid is a football player. Currently committed to Texas Tech.
10. Kyron Drones
Dual Threat, 6’2, 195 lbs.
Pearland Shadow Creek
3-Star, #573 Nationally, #18 Dual Threat
Drones will be climbing up the rankings his senior year. He has good feet and ability to extend plays. He lacks great speed but has enough to keep plays alive and move the chains. Arm strength isn’t great, but accuracy is pretty good. His ability to throw on the run and off platform stands out. Led Shadow Creek to a 16-0 undefeated state championship season. Holds offers from TCU, Auburn, and Ole Miss.
