6A Region III Playoff Scenarios

Our next installment of 6A playoff scenarios brings us to Region III.

With a district title showdown in District 20-6A and the potential for three-way tiebreaker scenarios in 17-6A, 23-6A, and 24-6A, there is plenty to keep an eye on in Region III.

Here is a look at the playoff scenarios for District 17-6A through District 24-6A heading into week 11.

8. E-Northbrook 0-6 0-9 vs. Stratford (5-1) Thu. Never

Week 11 Scenarios:

Jersey Village won its first district crown since 2018 with a 28-21 win over Stratford last week. Stratford is locked into finish second due to its 30-17 win over Cy-Fair back on Sep. 24.

Cy-Fair is also guaranteed one of the four playoff spots since it beat Memorial 20-0 and Cypress Creek 37-25 in October.

That means the battle to watch in District 17-6A this weekend will be the one for the fourth playoff spot.

Houston Memorial is in with a win over Cypress Ridge on Saturday.

Cypress Creek needs to upset Jersey Village and hope Cypress Ridge knocks off Memorial on Saturday to earn the final playoff spot.

Cypress Ridge, meanwhile, needs to beat Memorial and hope Jersey Village beats Cypress Creek and then win the ensuing three-way tiebreaker over Memorial and Cypress Creek.

District 18-6A

Week 11 Scenarios:

All four tickets to the dance have been punched in District 18-6A with Lamar, Westside, Heights, and Westbury set to represent the district in the playoffs.

Lamar secured its eleventh district title in 12 years due to its convincing 49-0 win over Westside on Oct. 23. It will go to the 6A Division I playoffs with Westside.

The only movement that could potentially occur is if Sam Houston stuns Heights and Westbury knocks off Westside, which would allow Westbury to jump Heights as the top team in this district in the 6A Division II playoffs.

Everything else is rather set. Katy is set to be joined by Cinco Ranch in the 6A Division II playoffs, while Tompkins and Seven Lakes will represent the district in the 6A Division I playoffs.

Week 11 Scenarios:

Ridge Point and Travis will face off in a winner-take-all showdown for the district title on Friday night with both teams already having a playoff spot wrapped up.

Fort Bend Clements is locked into the playoffs for the first time in 14 years thanks to its 28-13 win over George Ranch last week.

Fort Bend Bush will secure a playoff spot with a win against Clements on Friday or a Dulles win over George Ranch, while George Ranch must beat Dulles and hope Clements knocks off Bush in order to earn the final playoff spot.

District 21-6A

Team District Record Overall Record Week 11 Opponent Last Playoff Appearance
1. Y-North Shore 6-0 9-1 BYE 2020

3. X-C.E. King 3-2 7-2 vs. Humble (0-5) Fri. 2020

5. Beaumont West Brook 2-3 5-4 @Atascocita (4-1) Thu. 2020
6. E-Kingwood 1-4 1-8 @Summer Creek (2-3) Fri. 2019
7. E-Humble 0-5 2-7 @King (3-2) Fri. 2019

Week 11 Scenarios:

North Shore earned its fourth straight district title after beating Atascocita 31-21 a week ago. Atascocita is guaranteed to go Division I along with the Mustangs.

C.E. King locked itself into the playoffs with a 35-12 win over West Brook last week and is guaranteed to be the top team heading to the 6A Division II playoffs from this district.

That means only the fourth and final playoff spot is up for grabs. Summer Creek is in the driver’s seat and is in with a win over Kingwood, while West Brook must upset Atascocita on Thursday and hope Kingwood knocks off Summer Creek on Friday in order to earn the final spot.

District 22-6A

Team District Record Overall Record Week 11 Opponent Last Playoff Appearance
1. Y-Deer Park 5-0 7-2 @Pasadena Memorial (2-3) Fri. 2020
2. X-Dobie 4-1 7-2 @South Houston (3-2) Thu. 2020
3. X-Channelview 4-2 6-4 BYE 2020
4. X-South Houston 3-2 4-5 vs. Dobie (4-1) Thu. 2017
5. E-Pasadena Memorial 2-3 3-6 vs. Deer Park (5-0) Fri. 2020
6. E-Sam Rayburn 0-5 4-5 vs. Pasadena (0-5) Sat. 1997
7. E-Pasadena 0-5 0-9 @Sam Rayburn (0-5) Sat. 1996

Week 11 Scenarios:

There isn’t a ton to play for in District 22-6A as the four playoff spots are already locked up with Deer Park, Dobie, Channelview, and South Houston set to represent the district in the postseason.

Deer Park has earned its first district title since 2017 since it holds the tiebreaker over Dobie from a 49-28 victory two weeks ago. Dobie is locked in to join Deer Park in the 6A Division I playoffs.

And after Channelview beat South Houston 52-13 a week ago, the Falcons are locked in to finish above the Trojans as they both head to the 6A Division II playoffs.

District 23-6A

Team District Record Overall Record Week 11 Opponent Last Playoff Appearance
1. Y-Shadow Creek 6-0 7-2 vs. Hastings (1-5) Fri. 2020
2. X-Pearland 5-1 6-3 @Dawson (5-1) Thu. 2020
3. X-Pearland Dawson 5-1 7-2 vs. Pearland (5-1) Thu. 2020
4. Alief Taylor 3-3 5-4 vs. Alvin (2-4) Fri. 2016
5. Strake Jesuit 2-4 3-6 vs. Elsik (0-6) Fri. 2020
6. Alvin 2-4 4-5 @Alief Taylor (3-3) Fri. 2005
7. E-Alief Hastings 1-5 1-8 @Shadow Creek (6-0) Fri. 2018
8. E-Alief Elsik 0-6 1-8 @Strake Jesuit (2-4) Fri. 2015

Week 11 Scenarios:

Shadow Creek is guaranteed its third district title in its fourth varsity season due to its wins over Pearland and Dawson this season.

Pearland and Dawson are locked into the playoffs alongside Shadow Creek.

That leaves the final spot for three teams to battle for on Friday night. Alief Taylor will be in the playoffs for the first time in five years with a victory over Alvin.

Alvin is in with a victory over Alief Taylor and an upset victory by Elsik over Strake Jesuit.

Strake Jesuit must beat Elsik and hope Alvin beats Taylor and then it would have to come out above Alvin and Alief Taylor in the three-way tiebreaker.

An Alief Taylor victory against Alvin is the simplest scenario but keep an eye on this district considering the knack Texas high school football has for the unpredictable.

District 24-6A

Team District Record Overall Record Week 11 Opponent Last Playoff Appearance
1. Y-Dickinson 5-0 7-2 @Clear Lake (2-3) Fri. 2020
2. X-Clear Falls 4-1 8-1 vs. Brazoswood (1-4) Thu. 2020
3. X-Clear Springs 3-2 5-4 vs. Clear Brook (1-4) Fri. 2020
4. Clear Lake 2-3 4-5 vs. Dickinson (5-0) Fri. 2018
5. Clear Creek 2-4 3-7 BYE 2020
6. Clear Brook 1-4 3-5 @Clear Springs (3-2) Fri. 2018
7. Brazoswood 1-4 4-5 @Clear Falls (4-1) Thu. 2012

Week 11 Scenarios:

Dickinson has the district title secured heading into week 11 thanks to a 28-7 win over Clear Falls all the way back on Sept. 24.

Clear Falls will be the top team in the 6A Division II playoffs from this district, while Clear Springs will join Dickinson in the 6A Division I playoffs.

The district gets much more complicated when you look at the fourth spot.

Clear Lake is in the playoffs with an upset win over Dickinson.

Clear Creek is guaranteed to be in the playoffs if Dickinson knocks off Clear Lake and Clear Springs defeats Clear Brook and Clear Falls defeats Brazoswood.

However, if Dickinson beats Clear Lake and one of or both Clear Brook and Brazoswood are victorious, it could come down to a three or four-way tiebreaker for the final playoff spot in District 24-6A.
