Gordon Longhorns

Head Coach: Mike Reed

Last Season: 15-0; 4-0 in district (Defeated Whiteface in the 1A Division I State Title Game)

Gordon Key Players and Storylines

Gordon has now won back-to-back state titles after a 70-24 blowout of Whiteface in last year’s 1A Division I State Title Game.

However, this year will look very different. The Longhorns won’t play a single home game. Their athletic facilities were devastated when the town took a direct hit from an EF-1 tornado on May 18.

Mike Reed has also scheduled a pair of 11-man football games for his team against Thorndale and Brackettville to provide a new challenge for his players.

At the six-man level, the Longhorns are just about unstoppable with the now-senior duo of running backs Stryker Reed and Air Force commit Ry Reed. Their speed makes them extremely dangerous when it comes to the space on the field with six-man football.

6’1″ receiver Brayden Walters has great size and prevents defenses from just zeroing in on the Reeds. Quarterback Noah Kostiha is back to lead that passing attack too.

On the other side of the ball, Walters is a force at linebacker, having earned his district’s Defensive MVP honors. He and Kaden Crowe are a playmaking duo in the middle of the field, while it’s hard to get anything by the Reeds from their positions in the secondary.

The nucleus of Gordon’s previous two state championship teams is still intact. That’s bad new for the rest of 1A Division I as the Longhorns look for their third consecutive state title this year.
