Texas HS Football Podcast: Episode 132

This episode, we’re heading into the halfway point of the Texas high school football playoffs, the part of the postseason where every team left has earned the right to be taken seriously. There are no warmups, no tune-ups, no easy outs. It’s Thanksgiving week, and the teams still fighting for a trip to AT&T Stadium are relishing the chance to practice on Thanksgiving morning.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to thank all of you for the support and for listening. We don’t take any of it for granted. Your messages, shares, and listens are what keep this show going, and we appreciate every single one of you for riding along with us each week.

This week, host Taylor Arenz talks with two players from two of the biggest powerhouse programs in the state. First up is DeSoto star wide receiver Ethan “Boobie” Feaster. Boobie shares how football became his passion, the story behind his nickname, and why reclassifying was such a major decision for him both academically and personally.

Taylor and Boobie dig into DeSoto’s big playoff win, how the team redeemed last year’s loss to Longview, and how this offense has come alive at the perfect time. They also talk about the DeSoto community, the people who support him, and what being part of that city means to him. Ethan reflects on the emotions of his final high school season and closes with powerful advice for younger athletes chasing the same dream.

Then, Taylor chats with the young man at the helm of the Southlake Carroll Dragons, quarterback Angelo Renda. Angelo opens up about the mindset behind a 12–0 run, handling the spotlight that comes with playing quarterback at Southlake Carroll, and how he approaches leading a powerhouse program. They dive into the explosive offensive performances that have defined their year, including last week’s statement playoff win, and look ahead to the highly anticipated regional matchup against Prosper. Angelo shares the lessons he’s taken from Coach Riley Dodge, what makes this team so connected, the habits that fuel his success, the memories he’ll carry from his senior year, and closes with meaningful advice for young quarterbacks following the same path.
