The Lake Travis High School football community is mourning the death of senior Odin Hensley, who passed away late Wednesday after suffering a cardiac emergency during football practice Monday morning.
Hensley, 17, was airlifted by Travis County STAR Flight to Dell Children’s Medical Center following the emergency. He remained in intensive care before his death.
Lake Travis ISD announced the news Thursday morning, remembering Hensley as a longtime member of the district who attended Lake Pointe Elementary School before eventually becoming a two-sport athlete in football and wrestling at Lake Travis High School.
Teachers and coaches remembered him as a kind and determined young man who was a valued teammate, classmate and friend.
The Lake Travis community had rallied around Hensley and his family throughout the week. Around 350 people gathered Wednesday evening at Lake Hills Church for a vigil, while a GoFundMe established to support his family had surpassed $155,000 by Thursday morning.
Support also came from across the Texas high school football community. Players and coaches from rival Westlake delivered a message of support, while Lake Travis teammates shared tributes to Hensley following news of his passing.
Texas HS Football extends its condolences to Odin Hensley’s family, teammates, coaches, classmates, and the entire Lake Travis community.
