San Angelo Central 2026 Season Preview
San Angelo Central Bobcats
Head Coach: Mark Smith (3rd season; 12-10 record)

Returning Lettermen: 35 (6 returning starters on offense; 5 on defense)
San Angelo Central Key Players and Storylines
After Mark Smith got his first full offseason in San Angelo last year, everything clicked. Not only did the Bobcats make the playoffs for the first time in three years, but they also won their first playoff game since 2020.
A lot of key experience is back from that team, including 11 returning starters. It all revolves around Smith’s son quarterback Micah Smith, who threw for 2,245 and 27 touchdowns last season. He did lose his top four receivers to graduation, but he’s got a workhorse alongside him in returning 1,000-yard rusher Zeyvion Johnson, who is only a junior.
Up front, the Bobcats have quite the anchor in the trenches in 6’4”, 302-pound guard Ethan Boyd, who just committed to UTSA.
End of Season highlights‼️‼️
Thank you to all my coaches and teammates, what a great year this was and let’s keep building for next year‼️@coachmarksmith @CGriffin_16 @RoyGarciaIII @LilesJake @GlidewellDustin @coach_jmartin pic.twitter.com/0M1NmBqft5— Micah Smith (@Micahsmith_QB) December 4, 2025
Defensively, expect defensive back Troy Ceballos (55 tackles, two INTs) to lead from the back after he earned second team all-district honors in 2025. The Bobcats also can pack a punch in the front seven in linebacker Tucker Beatty (44 tackles, 7.5 TFLs) and pass rushing threat defensive lineman Riley Oines (51 tackles, 6.5 sacks)
The Bobcats will have to build up some depth, but with playmakers on both sides of the ball, Smith believes they can be even stronger this year. After just two district losses by a combined 24 points a year ago, they’ve set their eyes on trying to bring home a district title, something San Angelo has not done since 2017.
