Keller Central Key Players and Storylines
If you’re looking for a sleeper, look no further than Keller Central. The Chargers are fresh off a 5-5 season, their winningest campaign since 2019.
It has been a remarkable turnaround for a team that finished 0-10 in 2023, the year before Eric Vance took over.
The next step is now snapping a six-year playoff drought. The Chargers will believe they can do it with dynamic quarterback Isaiah Taylor (1,295 passing yards, 638 rushing yards, and 21 total TDs) leading the way. He’s a true gamebreaker with Power Four offers. Senior running back Spencer Martin (892 rushing yards and ten touchdowns), a four-year starter, will keep the offense balanced. The Chargers will lean on 5’8″, 276-pound senior center Braiden Pitarro and fellow senior tackle/guard Preston Ellis to set the tone up front on an offensive line that has some holes to fill.
Junior season stats-

Defensively, opposing quarterbacks are in for quite the night when they face the Chargers. Junior cornerbacks Jeremiah Taylor, last year’s district Defensive Newcomer of the Year and Ja’Mari McGee are both future Saturday players, while 6’3″, 215-pound linebacker Gabe Morton (55 tackles, 11 TFLs) will be flying off the edge. He led the Chargers in both tackles for loss and sacks a year ago.
Vance is confident that Central “is building something special,” but he knows the Chargers have not arrived yet. In such a competitive district, he says Central could be a playoff team or just as easily finish 2-8. It will be all about execution as the Chargers look to live up to the potential they have on paper.
