Northwest Key Players and Storylines
Northwest is ready to turn the page on 2025. The Texans’ 2-8 record was the fewest wins they’ve had in a season since 2015.
One small piece of optimism for Bill Poe’s squad is three of those losses came by a combined eight points, so they aren’t far off from a much better season.
The offense only averaged 19 points per game last season, but workhorse running back Caris Sela (1,670 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns) and returning quarterback Mark Hartman (1,378 passing yards and seven touchdowns) should boost that unit.

Poe is also encouraged by the size the Texans have on their offensive line with 6’2”, 295-pound senior Jace Mitchum, 6’4”, 290-pound junior Ty Zumwalt, and 6’5”, 295-pound junior Jamari Davis.
Defensively, the Texans need some additional players to emerge on the defensive line alongside Denton Guyer transfer defensive tackle Xavier Diggs. Behind him, the Texans do have a pair of playmakers in linebacker Michael Matsingi (73 tackles) and cornerback Brady Taylor (39 tackles, three INTs).
One of the things that impresses Poe the most about his players is their toughness and blue-collar mindset. They’ll lean on that grit this year as they aim to overcome some inexperience and fight their way up the District 4-6A standings.
