Denton Guyer Key Players and Storylines

Denton Guyer was back to its usual self in 2025. The Wildcats secured their first district title since 2022 before advancing all the way to the fourth round of playoffs.

Expectations remain high this season at a program that now has earned 18-straight playoff berths.

Quarterback Carter Morgan (926 passing yards, 517 rushing yards) is back at the helm after a strong sophomore season. He’s got the mobility to make defenses account for him and the arm strength to open it up for playmaking wide receivers DJ Reese, who missed last year through injury, and Tristan Shelton (734 receiving yards and five touchdowns). Center Adriano Nevarez will be the glue guy in the trenches as a three-year starter.

Opposing offensive lines will have quite the dilemma this year. 6’1”, 270-pound defensive tackle Khyren Haywood (61 tackles, 24.5 TFLs) “demands double teams,” but they’ll also have to account for four-star defensive end Zane Rowe (72 tackles, 26 TFLs) and his fellow senior pass rusher Darrien Neal (54 tackles, 10 TFLs).

On the back end, turnover-creating safety Paxton Williams will need to lead what will be an inexperienced secondary.

The Guyer coaching staff believes the talent they have is similar to what they had a year ago. That should bode well as they eye a second-straight district title and more December football.
