Forney Key Players and Storylines
Forney is about to learn a lot about its culture this fall. The Jackrabbits are fresh off a regional semifinals run, but they only return four starters from that group.
It’s safe to say experience will be lacking this fall, but that doesn’t mean expectations will change. Young Jackrabbits will be expected to step up and win right away.
A good foundation in the trenches always helps, and Forney certainly has that offensively. Both 6’5”, 320-pound senior Jordan Carraway and 6’5”, 268-pound senior Mason Joshua are three-year starters who are on the path to play Division I football. Behind them, Forney graduated every quarterback who threw a pass last year and a 2,000-yard rusher too, but that doesn’t mean the cupboard is bare. Junior running back Taylor Hunley is already getting Division I looks.
Defensively, there’s just one returning starter, but he’s a big one. Defensive end Chris Ridore (40 tackles, nine sacks) was the district’s Newcomer of the Year after leading the Jackrabbits in sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles. He’ll have help from senior defensive end/linebacker James Evans, who head coach Jeff Fleener believes is a “big sleeper” heading into 2026.

Forney has shown the ability to deal with roster turnover under Fleener with five playoff berths in five seasons under him. This year’s team might not be as strong on paper, but a top four district finish will be the bare minimum as the Jackrabbits look to reload quickly.
