Lewisville quarterback Laykon Brassfield is eligible again.
The junior won his appeal before the UIL State Executive Committee in Austin on Thursday, overturning the District 5-6A Executive Committee’s September ruling that had sidelined him over residency concerns.
Brassfield is cleared to return immediately and is expected to be available Friday against Flower Mound.
The original Sept. 25 decision centered on whether Brassfield’s family had established a bona fide residence inside the Lewisville High School attendance zone. The district committee voted 7-0 to rule him ineligible, which forced Lewisville to forfeit non-district wins over Highland Park, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Denton Ryan.
In a separate 5-2 vote, however, the committee determined Brassfield had not moved for athletic purposes.
At Thursday’s appeal, the family presented updated documentation showing it had fully consolidated into a roughly 1,200-square-foot Lewisville apartment. Brassfield’s younger siblings had also been withdrawn from Argyle ISD, resolving one of the main issues raised during the original hearing.
The SEC unanimously reinstated Brassfield’s eligibility.
The ruling also clears the way for Lewisville’s three forfeited non-district victories to be restored.
Brassfield had been one of the state’s hottest quarterbacks before the ruling. Through three games, he completed 49 of 69 passes for 734 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception while adding 133 rushing yards and two more scores.
Lewisville remained unbeaten in district play during his absence and now gets its starting quarterback back for the stretch run.
