Harker Heights Key Players and Storylines

Mark Humble knows a thing or two about succeeding on the highest level. He was part of Killeen’s 1991 state championship football team, the only Killeen ISD team to win a state title in football.

His Knights have won at least a share of the district titles in all three of his seasons at the helm, and they have a chance to be great again this season.

There’s talent all over the roster with 11 returning starters. Quarterback Hudson Humble (3,478 passing yards and 36 touchdowns) is a three-year starter who his father believes can compete with anyone in the state. There’s no question his go-to target is receiver Ryan Taylor (1,344 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns), who is the all-time leading receiver in Harker Heights history.

Arshawn Spann (533 receiving yards, 18 tackles) will also get plenty of touches this year. He can play receiver, defensive back, and on special teams as a return specialist. He’ll be “dangerous” in all three phases.

Eric Young (410 total yards, 61 tackles) is just as versatile. He stars at defensive back, where he was an all-district honoree last year, but he can play some receiver and running back too. Linebacker Malik McKnight (97 tackles, 17 TFLs) is always a threat to make a game-changing play while senior Ar’Keevian Thomas (27 tackles) and junior Aubrey Anduze (13 tackles, three TFLs) round out a trio of talented linebackers.

On special teams, Oakley Goins is a weapon as a three-year starter at kicker and punter.

The Knights will need to build some depth in the trenches around guys like three-year starter guard/center Marvin Hatcher and potential two-way contributor Ivan Arzate, but there aren’t many other holes on this year’s roster.

With so much playmaking ability, the Knights will be one of the favorites for another district title as they aim to “Rep the Shield” well in 2026.
