Georgia commit Colton Nussmeier will not be eligible to play varsity football for Denton Ryan during the 2026 season after losing his appeal before the University Interscholastic League State Executive Committee.

The committee voted 4-1 on Thursday, July 9, to uphold the previous District 3-5A Division I Executive Committee ruling that Nussmeier transferred from Flower Mound Marcus for athletic purposes.

The district committee considered his eligibility on June 16. With Ryan unable to participate in the vote, the other six district members split 3-3. The tie left the decision tied to Nussmeier’s Previous Athletic Participation Form, which indicated that his move was made for athletic reasons.

Nussmeier transferred to Ryan during the spring semester after playing his first three high school seasons at Marcus. He remains eligible to play varsity football at Marcus if he returns to the school.

The four-star Class of 2027 quarterback committed to Georgia on June 5 and later competed at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles.

Nussmeier completed 100 of 167 passes for 1,390 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception during an injury-shortened junior season. He also rushed for 278 yards and three touchdowns before a knee injury ended his season after eight games.

He is the son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, whom the Kansas City Chiefs selected in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The ruling leaves Ryan without the quarterback expected to replace two-year starter Quin Henigan. New head coach Shane Tolleson will enter his first season leading the Raiders with an open competition at the position.
