Mayde Creek Key Players and Storylines
Mayde Creek is staring down a growing playoff drought heading into 2026. Last year, the Rams lost three district games by ten points or less and finished outside of the top four by just one game. It was their sixth-straight season without a playoff berth.
On the bright side, they averaged over 31 points per game offensively in 2025, their best mark since 2018. Six starters are back from that offense including track star receiver Chad Nelson (496 receiving yards and four touchdowns) and 6’3”, 225-pound tight end Tristan Schwartz.

Defensively, the Rams have the tall task of replacing Kosi Okpala, who will play at Texas this fall, and eight other starters. Linebacker Christian Arogbonlo (87 tackles, 10 TFLs) will have a lot on his shoulders after leading the Rams in tackles a year ago. He has a “good nose for the ball” and sheds blocks well.
Mayde Creek’s coaching staff admits that they may be a bit undersized, but they have bought into that underdog mentality as the smallest school in the district.
There’s no shortage of speed on this roster, and the Rams have now had two full offseasons under head coach Mike Arogbonlo. They’ll hope those two factors are enough to overcome their inexperience on defense as they strive for that first playoff berth since 2018.
