Morton Ranch Key Players and Storylines
After a winless campaign in Nick Cavallo’s first season, the Mavericks showed noted improvement last season, notching three wins.
They expect to continue that upward trajectory with a strong core of returning players. The Mavericks’ coaching staff is particularly excited about the explosiveness they possess at the skill positions. That starts with running back Cameron Brown, who burst onto the scene as a sophomore last season with 1,139 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Out at receiver, Chase Williams (397 receiving yards and five touchdowns) is the “most dynamic player on the team” while 6’0”, 205-pound receiver Taylan Eli (303 receiving yards and two touchdowns) is a “great physical player” that his teammates really rally behind.

Defensively, the front seven has its weapons too. Defensive end Henry Reed is a dominant player off the edge, while linebacker Masekela Washington will quarterback the unit with his experience as a three-year letterman. In the secondary, physical safety Regan Nichols has great range and is a returning starter.
The Maverick coaching staff admits there are some question marks about their depth with just 17 returning lettermen, but they are confident the program is heading in the right direction. They’ll continue stressing discipline, accountability, and relentless effort as they seek another jump in the win column this fall.
