Last Season: 5-6; 4-3 in district (Lost to Katy in bi-district)

Returning Lettermen: 28 (5 returning starters on offense; 4 on defense)

George Ranch Key Players and Storylines

Last year, Fulshear outgunned George Ranch 64-42 in a shootout. It was a sneak peek of the offensive potential that new George Ranch head coach Jomaul Mason can bring to the Longhorns. He comes over after serving as Fulshear’s co-offensive coordinator the past three seasons.

He inherits a Longhorn team with nine returning starters, and he’s excited about their offensive playmakers. Senior quarterback Tony Morrison (1,905 passing yards and 17 touchdowns) shined a year ago with his decision making, and he’s got a Division I prospect at receiver in Ellison Collins (557 receiving yards and seven touchdowns). Mason expects Collins to be able to open up the Longhorn offense with his big-play ability.

Defensively, Collins (21 tackles) will also contribute in the secondary alongside ballhawk safety Colt Marino. In the middle of the field, linebacker Ron Harris II is expected to play a much bigger role after the Longhorns graduated their top eight tacklers from a year ago.

Mason has preached the importance of attention to detail and toughness to his players over the offseason. He knows there may be some early growing pains with inexperienced players playing key roles, but he’s made it his mission for the Longhorns to peak at the right time as they look for their second-straight playoff berth.
