Vandegrift Key Players and Storylines

Vandegrift has now established itself in the annual state championship contender conversation. The Vipers made the state semifinals last season for the third time in the last four years.

December football is the goal again this season with the winning culture they’ve established.

However, they did graduate most of their offensive production, so it will be up to some new faces to keep the Viper offense rolling. Dynamic athlete Gavin Koester appears set to take over at quarterback. He missed almost all of last year with a knee injury after starring as a receiver in 2024. 

Behind him, juniors Evan Williamson (335 rushing yards and six touchdowns) and Preston James will be Vandegrift’s one-two punch at running back. Ontario Jackmon (178 receiving yards) is Vandegrift’s leading returning receiver and a threat out of the slot, while 6’3”, 300-pound senior Kaden O’Rourke brings some much-needed experience on the offensive line.

Defensively, dime Colton Stevens (85 tackles) and linebacker Luke Davis (81 tackles) are two playmakers coming off stellar sophomore seasons. 6’0” cornerback Griffin Gorrebeeck (67 tackles, one INT) is Vandegrift’s best player in coverage, while nose guard Gavin Law (55 tackles, five TFLs) causes plenty of disruption in the trenches.

It may be a new crop of players, but Vandegrift’s goals are still the same. They want a district title for the ninth year in a row and a long playoff run to go with it.
