Westlake Key Players and Storylines
The unthinkable happened in 2025. Westlake fell in the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
Expect the Chaparrals to have a chip on their shoulder in 2026, especially with 12 returning starters.
On the offensive line, they’ll have great veteran leadership from 6’2″, 290-pound Texas commit Jackson Cook. They will have a new starting quarterback this year, but the receiving corps has plenty of experience. Nash Chapman is an explosive option on the outside, while Braden Riddell (391 receiving yards and four touchdowns) can play tight end, receiver, or even some running back.

Defensively, the secondary will lead the way with playmaking safety Eric Abraham (69 tackles) and lengthy 6’3″ cornerback Wylie Nichols (31 tackles). In the front seven, defensive end Colton Fromberg (26 tackles, nine TFLs) is a relentless presence off the edge, while experienced linebacker Holden Helms has the football IQ that comes with being a three-year letterman. He’s also the Chaparrals’ long snapper.
After an offseason of hard work and with plenty of returning experience, this is a Westlake team that expects to be stronger. In Chaparral country, first round exits are unacceptable, so expect a strong rebound effort this fall.
