Johnson Key Players and Storylines
If you’re looking for a dark horse in 6A, Johnson might be your pick. The Jaguars are fresh off a regional final run, their best season in 12 years. They were competitive in that regional final too, jumping out to a 13-0 lead in an eventual 27-19 loss to Lake Travis.
Now, 14 starters are back from that squad, hungry to avenge that defeat. It will all start with gunslinging quarterback Elvis Estrada (2,959 passing yards and 39 touchdowns), who has led the Jaguars to back-to-back undefeated district titles. He did lose a 1,400 yard rusher alongside him, but he is more than spoiled at receiver. Sophomore Braelyn Allen (1,280 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns) is a vertical threat who made quite the splash in his debut varsity season, while Iowa State commit Bryson Thompson (848 receiving yads and 11 touchdowns) can line up anywhere and make an impact for the Jaguars.

Defensively, the Jaguars will lean on lockdown cornerback Mikhail McCreary (25 tackles), an Oklahoma commit, to shut down half of the field for opposing quarterbacks. In front of him, the Jaguars have a dangerous one-two tandem at linebacker in seniors Elijah Guajardo (105 tackles and 15 TFLs) and Tyler Willis.
Last year’s experience of playing into December will be huge for this year’s group. Head coach T.P. Miller believes they will be ready for the moments when the lights are the brightest as the Jaguars eye both another district championship and a potential run to AT&T Stadium.
