Madison Key Players and Storylines
It was an offseason of change for Madison. After nine years in charge, Blaine Pederson stepped down to take over at Antonian Prep. In his place, Madison hired Myles Duelm, who had spent the last four years as Reagan’s offensive coordinator.
Madison hasn’t had a winning record since 2021, but the Mavericks did scrap their way into the playoffs for the first time in four years last season.
Duelm’s offensive acumen will be put to the test after Madison graduated its District MVP quarterback and both all-district receivers. That leaves shifty running back Decoreion McMillian as the centerpiece of the offense after he rushed for 1,080 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.
Defensively, the Mavericks have more returning production to work with. Safety Mikel Biles, last year’s district defensive newcomer of the year, is a playmaker on the backend and has great size at 6’2″ and 185 pounds. In the heart of the field, linebacker Myron Biles is Madison’s leader, while fellow linebacker Liberty Boss is a returning second team all-district selection. Up front, the Mavericks have a mammoth in 6’2″, 305-pound defensive tackle Sofiane Bel Hadj Ali.

Task number one for Duelm and company will be settling in their new signal-caller. If he can get the offense rolling, the Mavericks will have hopes of competing for back-to-back playoff berths for the first time since they made six straight appearances from 2016-2021.
