Brennan Key Players and Storylines
Brennan didn’t have to look far for motivation this offseason. The Bears ended 2025 with a nail-biting 13-7 loss to Lake Travis in the area round. It’s a defeat that has spurred on plenty of hard work over the summer.
Now comes the test to see if they can improve on back-to-back 10-2 seasons. Their starting quarterback and two leading rushers graduated, but “do-it-all” running back JayShawn Mitchell (217 rushing yards, 609 receiving yards) is ready to be at the forefront of the offense. In the passing attack, Brennan can lean on 6’2” receiver Jaylin Kelly to “make big catches,” while offensive linemen Jayden Antuna and Fabian Hernandez were both second team all-district picks in 2025.

Defensively, linebacker Johnas Brewster is a star in the making. He led Brennan with 181 tackles last year as only a sophomore. Defensive end Jeremiah Reyes (44 tackles, 18 TFLs) “can make plays as a runner stopper and as a pass rusher,” while safety Aiden Martin doesn’t shy away from physicality either.
Brennan has its culture down to a T. The Bears haven’t ended a season before the second round of playoffs since 2017. From 2020-2023, they made at least the third round every year. That’s the goal again this fall after back-to-back second round exits.
