East Bernard ISD is mourning the deaths of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jeremy Jenkins and his wife, Brandy Jenkins, following a car crash Saturday night.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 10:07 p.m. on State Highway 60 near County Road 210 in Wharton County. Their vehicle left the roadway while approaching a curve and overturned.
Jeremy Jenkins, 51, and Brandy Jenkins, 46, were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
East Bernard ISD Superintendent Courtney Hudgins announced their deaths Sunday, remembering the couple as educators, mentors and deeply valued members of the East Bernard community.
Brandy had recently joined East Bernard Junior High School as a teacher. The district said she had already formed a strong connection with her students just days into the new school year.
Jeremy Jenkins took over as East Bernard’s athletic director and head football coach in 2024. He immediately continued the Brahmas’ winning tradition, leading the program to a 10-2 season in 2024 and a 10-5 record in 2025. Last season, East Bernard advanced to the UIL Class 3A Division II state semifinals.
Before arriving at East Bernard, Jenkins served as head coach at Mount Enterprise, Tenaha and Harmony.
The district said counseling and support services will be available for students and staff in the days ahead.
Jeremy and Brandy leave behind three sons. East Bernard ISD asked the community to keep the Jenkins family, students, staff and the entire Brahma community in their thoughts and prayers during an extraordinarily difficult time.
