Laredo United Key Players and Storylines
Laredo United has turned itself back into a threat in November. The Longhorns have advanced to the third round of playoffs in two of the last three years.
They’re eyeing another Thanksgiving practice this fall with half of their starters returning from last year’s group.
It all starts with receiver Colt Lozano, who was one of the most prolific receivers in the entire state last fall with 1,859 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. 6’3” tight end Jesse Garcia-Perez (919 receiving yards and eight touchdowns) is the Longhorns’ big target with good speed for his size too.

Now, Laredo United does have to replace a 3,900-yard passer from last season, but head coach David Sanchez believes junior Alex Martinez is ready to step into the starting quarterback role. He “knows the offense” and “reads defenses well.”
Defensively, Ethan Estrada isn’t shy about coming up to make plays from his safety position. He led the Longhorns with 126 total tackles a year ago. In the front seven, linebacker Jesse Leal (52 tackles) “has a nose for the ball,” while defensive end Dylan Gonzalez (59 tackles) is “hard to block” in the trenches.
With so much playing experience returning, Sanchez has confidence this group can be even better than last year. After a 38-35 loss to Medina Valley denied the Longhorns a district title, that will be goal number one this year with hopes of another playoff run to follow.
