Weslaco Key Players and Storylines

Weslaco is proud to boast an average attendance between 8,000 and 10,000 on Friday nights at Bobby Lackey Stadium. In recent years, fans have been loving what they have seen.

The Panthers have won a playoff game in each of the past four seasons and have also secured two district titles in that time frame.

They’ll be out for another finish atop District 31-6A with ten returning starters. Offensively, they’ll have a new quarterback, so the ground game should take charge early with hard-running junior back Malachi Rodriguez (635 rushing yards and seven touchdowns) and versatile fullback Ethan Hoskins helping both as a blocker and a receiving threat (187 receiving yards). When it comes to the passing attack, Weslaco’s top three receivers from 2025 all graduated. They expect senior Saul Ramirez, who is also a track star, to be one of the leaders of the receivers’ room this fall.

Defensively, opposing quarterbacks will be wary of the Weslaco secondary with ballhawk safety Kike Rodriguez (43 tackles, two INTs) and hard-hitting defensive back Seth Moya (54 tackles, four INTs) looming. Up front, defensive end Jacob Hinojosa (33 tackles, six TFLs) is back after earning first team all-district honors last season. 

The Panthers may have to develop some more depth as the season goes on, but this is a team ready to play fast and furious. With returning playmakers, Stroman believes this is a group plenty capable of bringing home their third district title in five years.
