PSJA North Key Players and Storylines

After four years in 5A Division I, PSJA North makes its return to 6A football this fall. In those four seasons, the Raiders had a grand total of one regular season loss.

They’ll look to continue that winning momentum into this fall with 11 returning starters.

Offensively, it will begin in the trenches with returning second team all-district guards Ryenn Martinez and Tristen Dandrige. The foundation will be big up front as the Raiders turn to junior quarterback Drayden Espinoza (241 passing yards and two touchdowns) and junior running back Antwon Estrada (340 rushing yards and two touchdowns) as their new backfield starters. Keep an eye on sophomore tight end Jaxon Evans (142 receiving yards and three touchdowns) after he showed flashes a year ago.

Defensively, the Raiders are stout up front as well with sack machine defensive end Jacoby Herrera (145 tackles, 31 TFLs) and 6’0″, 285-pound defensive tackle Rey Martinez (125 tackles, 30 TFLs) wreaking havoc in opponents’ backfields. Behind them, both linebacker Marcoantonio Alvarado (111 tackles, 12 TFLs) and safety Jason Almanza (117 tackles, five TFLs) are sure tacklers for anything that breaks beyond the first level of defense.

Last time PSJA North was in 6A, the Raiders finished 10-3 back in 2021. They’ll expect to compete for one of the top spots in District 32-6A right away especially with so much talent back on defense.
