Richland High School is mourning the death of junior wide receiver Katron Walker Jr., who died Saturday following an overnight car accident.

Walker, 17, had transferred to Birdville ISD in June after previously attending Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering in Tennessee. He joined the Richland football program this season and was a member of the Royals’ junior varsity team.

Though his time at Richland had been short, school officials said Walker had already made a positive impact on teammates, coaches and others around the program.

Details surrounding the accident have not been publicly released.

Support Available for Richland Students and Staff

Birdville ISD announced that grief counselors will be available at Richland High School as students and staff process the sudden loss.

Additional support is also being provided to Walker’s family, teammates and those closest to him.

Walker was known by family and friends as “Kane.” Tributes began appearing across social media Saturday as news of his death spread throughout the Richland and Texas High School football communities.

At just 17 years old and only a few months into his time at Richland, Walker had already become part of the Royals football family.

Our thoughts are with Walker’s family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Richland High School community during this incredibly difficult time.
