With the score flip-flopping back and forth all night, the Clear Creek Wildcats score a touchdown with 28 seconds remaining in the game to down the Deer Park Deer by the score of 36-29 at Clear Creek ISD Veterans Stadium in the Houston suburb of League City on Thursday, September 10, 2015. The game was an offensive battle with a total of 792 total yards between both teams.
Clear Creek quarterback Chase Hildreth completed 13-of-16 passes for 250 yards and four touchdown. Running back Da’Von Smith carried the ball 21 times for 115 yards and one touchdown. Deer Park quarterback Cameron Thompson completed 14-of 23 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown. Senior running back Sammy Linton carried the ball 32 times for 32 yards and three touchdowns.
The Wildcats went up 9-7 after 12 minutes of play on a 41-yard field goal by Erik Baughman and a 40-yard pass from Hildreth to Brandon Hower. Hildreth also threw touchdown passes to Landon Etzel, in the third quarter, and to Andrew Wiesen in the fourth quarter. The Clear Creek touchdown with 28 seconds left in the game was a 57-yard pass to Jaiden Woodson.
The Deer’s scores came on one touchdown pass from Thompson to Jacob Logan in the first quarter and three rushing scores. Linton scored his first touchdown on a two-yard run with 1:40 remaining in the first half. He followed that up with a one-yard run at the 1:05 mark in the third quarter and an eight-yard run with 1:05 left in the game. Clear Creek racked up 466 yards of offense with 250 of the yards coming in the air. The Deer achieved 326 yard of offense with Thompson throwing for 232 yards.
With the win, Clear Creek goes to 3-0 for the season and will next face district 24-6A foe Clear Brook on Friday, September 25. Deer Park falls to 2-1 in 2015 and will prepare for a Friday, September 18 non-district game against Conroe Oak Ride at Abshire Stadium in Deer Park.
