Westlake Beats Cedar Ridge 56-21 After 16-Hour Delay

Austin Roof Inspection

Westlake (8-1, 5-0) needed parts of two days to finish its showdown with previously unbeaten Cedar Ridge (8-1, 4-1), but the Chaparrals secured the District 25-6A championship with a 56-21 victory Saturday. Westlake entered following a 38-17 win over Lake Travis, while Cedar Ridge had defeated Stony Point 68-29.

The game began Friday night, but a transformer fire knocked out power at Chaparral Stadium early in the second quarter with Westlake leading 20-7. Play finally resumed Saturday at noon, approximately 16 hours later.

The unexpected interruption didn’t slow down the Chaparrals.

Freshman running back C.J. Jones rushed for 88 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Patton Jones threw for 144 yards and two scores.

Westlake also dominated defensively, blocking a punt, making three fourth-down stops, and scoring on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Cedar Ridge quarterback Dylan Snoga threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns, but the Raiders couldn’t overcome Westlake’s balanced attack.

The victory handed Cedar Ridge its first loss and gave Westlake the district title.

Westlake visits Stony Point (3-6), coming off a 68-29 loss to Cedar Ridge, on November 6. Cedar Ridge hosts Round Rock (6-3), which lost 31-14 to Lake Travis.

Westlake Chaparrals 56 vs. Cedar Ridge Raiders 21, Final Score.
