This week’s Game of the Week features two one-loss teams in a battle to take the go ahead lead in the district race.
Klein Oak is 2-1 after losing a game to a good Langham Creek squad and having a game against Atascocita cancelled. Since then, the Panther offense has been rolling, scoring an average of over 50 points in their two wins this year. Brandon Blair has been at quarterback for the past two years, but is playing all over the field in his senior campaign. The Klein Oak offense is flexible, with athletes all over the field.
The Klein Collins Tigers have had a spectacular defense, outside of a pre-district overtime loss to the Katy Tigers. Linebacker Jonathan Bucio is one of many defenders having a great year for the Collins defense, which other than their loss is only giving up 10 points a game. On offense, quarterback Bryson Powers paves the way for the Tigers. The senior is a Harvard commit and one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the area.
If the Klein Oak offense can get going early, this one could be a massive shootout. Both attacks feature great dual threat quarterbacks and tons of versatility. The Klein Oak defense will need to step up like they did last week against Spring Woods, but if they can continue their trend, they should be more than fine.
So far in District 15-6A, the only team with a better win (score-wise) than these two teams is Klein. A loss here wouldn’t doom either team, but it sure would hurt their chances. Both of these teams should finish near the top of their respective districts, and in a week where a lot of potentially district deciding matchups are happening around the state, this one has the potential to be one of the best.
