The 7-2 Katy Taylor Mustangs will look to close their 2016 regular season on a six game winning streak and effectively slam the door on the 5-4 Strake Jesuit Crusaders Friday night at Rhodes Stadium. The Mustangs have already locked up their playoff spot as 19-6A’s top seeded representative in Division 2. Strake Jesuit remains on the outside looking in as Morton Ranch’s 32-21 victory over Seven Lakes on Thursday night has all but ended the Crusaders season.

If the Crusaders fate had not already been decided before kickoff, it’s possible it would have been shortly thereafter. Taylor will be rolling into Friday night on a five game winning streak, having averaged 42 points in their last three outings. The bulk of the Mustangs success this season can be attributed to 19-6A’s leading rusher, Ean Beek. Beek has blown the doors off the competition, running for a staggering 1,772 yards in nine games. If Beek is able to juke his way 228 yards against the Crusaders, he will have eclipsed the fabled 2,000-yard mark for the season.

If anyone can stymie Beek, it very well could be the Strake Jesuit defense. The Crusaders have limited opponents to 196.8 yards of total offense and less than 20 points per game. Katy Taylor’s Ean Beek has averaged 197 rushing yards a game to this point, but he will certainly be tested as he takes on a Crusaders defense that has only allowed an average of 99.6 yards on the ground.

The Mustangs have already punched their playoff ticket and will most likely play Fort Bend Kempner, Fort Bend Hightower, or Fort Bend Bush from 20-6A next weekend. The Mustangs and Crusaders will kickoff tomorrow night, November 4, at 7 PM at Rhodes Stadium. Check back in with TexasHSFootball.com on Saturday for the game recap.
