The Georgetown Eagles do a certain thing well: score points. When they win, they win big, with quarterback Chandler Herman throwing up passes to Beau Corrales and Caden Leggett. Corrales especially is dynamic, the kid has a 105.3 Nike SPARQ rating, and can go up and get just about every single thing Herman can throw to him.
The Georgetown defense can be a tad shaky, they’ve given up massive amounts of points to good offenses this year. This isn’t a slight of Georgetown, just an observation that when they’re facing dominant talent, that talent wins out a majority of the time. They have the potential to lock teams out, they’ve shown that in their recent lockdown of Cedar Creek and their throttling of Pflugerville Connally. However, when they play those Cedar Park kinds of teams, their defense becomes an afterthought in the way they go about winning games.
Luckily, they’re going up against a Brenham team that suffers from the same ailments they do. When the Cubs lose, it’s not because they can’t score points, but rather because they can’t stop their opponents from scoring them. Don’t get me wrong, Marquez Bimage is the truth out of his defensive end spot, but as a unit, Brenham has struggled at times this year.
This creates a perfect storm in the Bi-District round: two teams with outstanding offenses matched up against questionable defenses. Both defensive squads will have to play better than they’ve played so far this year. Both offenses will need to execute against vulnerable defenses. This has the makings of a Big 12 esque shootout, one that’s decided by whichever team gets to 48 first, or who has the ball last.
I’m honestly not sure who to take here. Georgetown has more wins, but I believe that Brenham has better athletes on the defensive side of the ball. The only thing that I know is that this game is going to come down to the wire.
