Refugio – III
Crawford – I
Advantage
Refugio, three votes to one
Reasoning
Refugio’s sole loss came at the hands of Geronimo Navarro, who went undefeated before losing to West Orange-Stark. Oh, also, they were a good two classifications bigger than the Bobcats. They’re an excellent team, and no one in their classification has come close to them this season, and a big reason for that is the play of Jaylon Mascorro.
The quarterback-turned-running back is an excellent threat for the Bobcats, and has been absolutely rolling people so far this season at his new position. Refugio has been pounding the ball down people’s throats so far this season, and that much shouldn’t change this season.
Crawford isn’t going to just roll over though. They have weapons of their own, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The task will fall to Lucas Steinkamp and company to stop Mascorro on Thursday, a feat that they’re certainly capable of. The old-school mentality of head coach Delbert Kelm and the Pirates’ split back veer will ensure that they have adequate chances in this game.
However, we feel like Refugio and Mascorro are going to be too much. Both teams are talented, but the talent of Mascorro pushes Refugio over the top in our eyes.
