The Bills are in a state of near complete disarray. Rex and Rob Ryan are out, dynamic but mercurial quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been benched, and the Bills are completely and totally out of postseason contention. There’s some really strange stuff going down in Buffalo.

The man tabbed with leading the Bills in their last game of the 2016-2017 season is Anthony Lynn, a name that Red Raider fans should recognize immediately.
Lynn played his high school ball at Celina, then went on to Texas Tech, where he was an All-Southwest Conference running back in 1990, his junior year. His final year with the Red Raiders was cut short by a knee injury, one that rendered him undraftable.
He bounced around the NFL as a backup running back, but ended up winning two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos. After he retired in 2000, he quickly took to coaching, and eventually found his way into Rex Ryan’s camp. In September he was promoted from Running Backs Coach to Offensive Coordinator when the former incumbent, Greg Roman, was fired.
Lynn inherits a 7-8 team that lately has been on the cusp of being good. The Bills have been streaky, deceiving us into thinking that they’re better or worse than they actually are. They’re okay, existing on average plane more often than not. They’ll take on the Jets, a team squarely on the bad spectrum with a 4-11 record. If the Bills can navigate that potential trap, there might be room for Lynn to stay as the head coach. He already interviewed for the Jets head coaching job after Ryan was fired from that job in 2013. The Ryan might be done in NFL head coaching circles, but there’s a chance that Lynn is just getting started.
