The Cibolo Steele Knights are one of the premiere programs in Texas High School football, and will likely remain that way for a long time due to the work that Scott Lehnhoff put in. Lehnhoff retired in January with an unreal 53-7 record to become the new Steele ISD Athletic Director.
For the 6A DII finalists, the choice was apparently very easy. Co-Defensive Coordinator David Saenz has been with the program for 10 years, his tenure extending back to Steele’s 2010 title with Mike Jinks.
Cibolo Steele is known for their strong running game and disciplined defense, and with an in-house hire, it’s hard to see that notoriety changing any time soon. Saenz is one of the architects of one of the most consistent programs in Texas, and that ship won’t deviate too much with him at the helm.
