Arguably the best player to ever wear a Charger uniform, Waco University High and TCU product LaDainian Tomlinson is back with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rosebud native will serve as special assistant to owner Dean Spanos, the team announced on Thursday.
“L.T. is one of the most beloved and iconic Chargers of all time,” Spanos said in a press conference announcing the hire. “His active involvement in our fight for Los Angeles is vital, and he represents the very best of what it means to be a Charger on the field and in the community.”
Tomlinson’s roles include bolstering fan engagement and community relations; he will continue his role with NFL Network as an analyst. The upcoming season will mark the first in a new market for the former San Diego franchise, recruiting the Hall-of-Famer to help adjust to the new location. Los Angeles has already sold out their season tickets for the upcoming year.
“I spent the most memorable and exciting years of my career as a Charger,” Tomlinson said in a statement. “Joining the franchise as it makes the move to Los Angeles, and helping to rally new and familiar Chargers fans alike, is an honor and a privilege. I’m looking forward to working alongside the Spanos family once again.”
Tomlinson currently boasts 28 records with the Chargers and rushed for 1k+ in all of his seasons besides his last one with the franchise. As a Texas player, he compiled 2,554 yards and 39 touchdowns his senior year at Waco and racked up 5,563 rushing yards in his career with the Horned Frogs – 6th all-time.
