Tony Romo To Be Honored As “Maverick For A Day”

You only miss the present when it becomes the past. This philosophy rings true as the Tony Romo love train continues chugging post retirement. Receiving more affection post-retirement, the former Cowboys signal caller will be honored Tuesday by the Dallas Mavericks, suiting up for the team’s final home jaunt against the Denver Nuggets.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Romo will be recognized as “a Maverick for a day” and will dress on the bench, in an evening where the audience will bid adieu to the all-time Cowboys passing touchdowns and yards leader. Romo will be treated as an actual team member and ink a one-day contract, but won’t see any court time; the last time he pounded the rock was in a Wisconsin high school.

Throughout his career with the Cowboys, Romo was an ardent Mavs fan, developing a relationship with Mark Cuban, Coach Rick Carlisle and David Hasslehoff enthusiast Dirk Nowitzki. In the past two seasons, Romo suffered from a plethora of injuries and was limited to playing in five games during that span. The emergence of Dak Prescott put Romo’s future in question; he decided to hang up his cleats in favor of the safety of a CBS broadcaster’s booth.
