5-Star Angleton Safety BJ Foster Is An Elite Two-Way Force Entering Senior Season

Very few prospects could miss the second half of their junior season due to injury and watch from the sidelines throughout the entire offseason to this point; yet remain as the nation’s top-ranked prospect at their position. Then again, very few prospects are as talented as BJ Foster.

A five-star prospect out of Angleton, Foster fell victim to an MCL injury halfway through his junior campaign, but his undeniable athleticism and innate ability to make plays have essentially cemented the two-way star as a top 15 prospect nationally and the No. 1 safety recruit in his class.

“People look at how you come back off of injuries and how you rebuild your team and lift your team up and just play hard, but I’m looking to improve very much,” Foster recently told TexasHSFootball.com

Considering his wade-ranging skill set, there’s seemingly not very much for Foster to improve upon.

While he’s being recruited as a safety, Foster is simply a pure athlete, and a tremendous one at that. If Foster weren’t considered the nation’s top safety prospect, he’d be among the most coveted ball carriers in his class.

Foster may never actually see a single carry out of the backfield once his high school career concludes, but as far as his senior season is concerned, he’ll once again be featured as the star ball carrier.

An imposing rusher, Foster churned out over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore, along with another 573 yards and seven scores during a shortened junior season. More impressively, he did so averaging upwards of 10 yards per carry during each season, which serves as a testament to his no nonsense, north and south running style. While he certainly has some shiftiness to his game, Foster’s physicality as a safety is also evident out of the backfield, where he’s more prone to lowering his shoulder and bulldozing defenders than attempting to dance around them.

Flip the field as Foster presents much of the same dominance.

A 6’1, 188-pound safety prospect, Foster already features an impressive frame that will only continue to fill out throughout his physical progression. A rangy talent in coverage, Foster covers as much ground as any safety in the 2018 class, largely aided by his 4.52 40-yard dash speed, which he said he’s looking to improve upon.

When in pursuit, Foster is among the nation’s more physical punishers. A hard-hitting safety, Foster is a sure tackler that will often simply lower his shoulder and explode through a ball carrier and his instinctive ability to read and react to allows him to consistently be in position to do what he does best.

Pair the aforementioned with his ability to lock down a receiver in one-on-one coverage and it’s not much of a surprise that some of college football’s most historic programs are vying for his June 5 commitment.

On that day, Foster will choose between Texas, LSU, TCU, Ohio State and Michigan. He recently told TexasHSFootball that the Longhorns are the heavy favorite, which aligns with Texas holding all 15 of Foster’s Crystal Ball projections down the stretch.

Will Foster soon be joining Sterns in Austin, giving Texas commitments from the top two safeties in the state, or will the nation’s No. 1 safety prospect surprise the masses and head elsewhere?
