64 teams from around The Lone Star State sought the Adidas 7on7 Division II championship when they arrived at Veterans Park & Athletic Complex on Thursday Morning. By 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Graham and Abilene Wylie were all that remained, tasked with battling blistering heat as well as their competition.

Two programs separated by just over 100 miles, Graham and Wylie were neck and neck from the opening snap, answering scoring drives with scoring drives and critical defensive stands with much of the same.

“I looked into every one of their eyes and everybody wanted to win,” Graham quarterback Tucker Horn said.

Graham’s will to win prevailed. On what became the final meaningful offensive drive of the championship game, with Graham leading 27-70, an Abilene Wylie pass intended for Cason Grant just inside the end zone was deflected by Jahlian Tate to seal the deal for Graham.

The celebration was on — Graham is your 2017 Adidas Division II state champion.

“There’s no other feeling like it,” Horn said of taking championship pictures with his teammates. “It was great to see Abilene Wylie there and they’re an awesome team, but we are so glad that we were in front of that taking pictures as champions.”
