Per reports of ESPN’S Adam Schefter, Dallas Cowboys running back sensation Ezekiel Elliot could be the recipient of a “short suspension” as he is the subject of an ongoing investigation from his 2016 domestic violence allegation.
Elliot was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend last July in Columbus, Ohio where the alleged victim was assaulted while she sat in the driver’s seat of her car on Elliott’s 21st birthday.
The women would file two police reports as she also filed one in February of 2016. Several witnesses however would come out later to deny any assault by Elliott to her and many of the reports would end up conflicting with the victim’s story and charges would end up being dropped due to “conflicting and inconsistent information” according to reports by ESPN.com’s Jean-Jacques Taylor.
The NFL has a policy where domestic violence incidents constitute an automatic six-game suspension but the investigation is still pending on the NFL’s part but Elliott is expected to respond to the NFL’s recent findings in the investigation in the next few weeks.
This has led to the “growing sense” of some sort of discipline taken by the NFL and possibly put Elliott out of action to begin the 2017 season. Per 105.3 The Fan Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, the front office “is not aware” of any upcoming suspension. Last year, Elliott ran for an NFL-leading 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns while posting 32 receptions for 363 yards and a touchdown. His performance last year garnered him Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team honors.
The Cowboys open up their season with a game at home versus the New York Giants then two road games against the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals before they come back home again to face the St. Louis Rams.
