On the eve of training camp across the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs have their future quarterback officially under contract. On Thursday, the Chiefs along with agent Leigh Steinberg, announced they had signed the former Texas Tech gunslinger.

According to Chiefs beat reporter Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star, the deal is worth $16.4 million, with a $10 million signing bonus.

Paylor also reported that with the new contract, Mahomes is interested in taking on more philanthropic efforts, which includes a charity for underprivileged children in Kansas City and a scholarship fund for Texas Tech as well as old high school, Whitehouse High, in East Texas.

Mahomes put up some staggering numbers last season at Texas Tech, throwing for 5,052 total and 41 touchdowns in his final year in Lubbock. With contract signed, he’ll now officially have a chance to prove himself at the next level.

The Chiefs open up training camp for rookies on July 24 and veterans on July 27 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
