Week Three Games To Watch In Texoma

Texoma should be buzzing in Week Three, as many teams seek their second or third win on the season.

Wichita Falls Hirschi (2-0) vs. Graham (2-0) (9/14) Memorial Stadium

The Huskies are off to a hot start, scoring 104 total points in their first two games, shutting out both opponents as well. Graham also has a similar start, including gaining the upper hand on rival Brownwood last week 54-49. With both teams sporting quality skill players; namely Graham’s Tucker Horn and Adam Groves and Hirschi quarterback Mar’tez Vrana, it’s sure to be quite the offensive spectacle. Which defense will perform the best for the win?

Last Result: Graham 28, Wichita Falls Hirschi 0 (2016)

Bowie (1-1) vs. Henrietta (2-0) (9/15) Jackrabbit Stadium

Bowie made a statement last week, drubbing a good Howe team 37-14. Last week was also a breakout game for Jackrabbit quarterback Matthew Wallace, who rushed for 99 yards and four touchdowns. A real test comes to town on Friday with Henrietta; the Bearcats are rolling after wins against a strong Windthorst team in the season opener, followed by last week’s win against Paradise. Henrietta boasts a dual threat signal-caller of their own with Zack West. Whichever defense can get the most three-and-outs should be able to win this ballgame.

Last Result: Henrietta 23, Bowie 22 (2016)

Whitesboro (2-0) vs. Gunter (2-0) Bearcat Stadium

Whitesboro survived a 7-6 nailbiter against Anna in the season opener, but rolled on with a 20-7 win over a good Aubrey team last week. Gunter on the other hand has been doing what defending state champions do best: Picking up where they left off. The Tigers have so far scored a total of 76 points, and allowed only 12. Whitesboro’s defense has so far been stout, but can it stop Gunter’s explosive offense?

Last Result: Gunter 27, Whitesboro 17 (2016)

Bryson (1-1) vs. Moran (2-0) (9/15) Cowboy Stadium

Despite dropping a close season opener to a tough Milford team, Bryson still looks to be one of the top teams to beat in DI. Even with a 1-1 record, the Cowboys offense has been dynamic, scoring a total of 126 points in both games. Moran is not too far behind, having scored a total of 105 points in their first two games. The key here is for Moran to match the Cowboys score-for-score, and take any opening.

Last Result: Bryson 42, Moran 14 (2016)

Crowell (2-0) vs. Knox City (2-0) (9/15) Dick Todd Field

Crowell has been tested so far, but passed both with flying colors. The Wildcats have scored a combined 109 points, and recorded a shutout over Gordon last week. They will be tested once again when Knox City comes into town, but the Greyhounds in turn will also be tested in this game. KC’s offense scored a total of 142 points over the two weeks, and are coming off a 66-6 thrashing of Rule. Can Crowell shut down this explosive offense, or can Knox City prove they’re the real deal this season?

Last Result: Crowell 66, Knox City 32 (2016)

Tioga (2-0) vs. Newcastle (1-1) (9/15) Bulldog Field

Tioga has steadily climbed in ranks since returning to football in 2012, and that climb has continued into their first two games this season: The Bulldogs are 2-0, and have scored a total of 134 points. With an always tough Newcastle team on the schedule, Tioga may get a chance to see where they are as a program. While Newcastle has scored only 85 total points so far, the Bobcats have faced tough competition to begin the season. Can Newcastle’s offense kick into the top gear, or can Tioga’s defense provide trouble?

Last Result: Newcastle 79, Tioga 54 (2016)
