Reports indicate that the second-year player tore his patellar tendon in his knee returning a punt. Ervin left in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans and did not return. The team has not yet confirmed the severity of the injury.
Ervin, a fourth-round draft pick in 2016, was the primary punt returner for Houston but also provided depth at both running back and wide receiver. With him out of the lineup, the Texans will have to turn elsewhere to fill the gap that Ervin leaves behind.
The Texans host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football next week.
