FORT WORTH- Saginaw Boswell put their unbeaten record on the line on Friday Under the bright lights of Bear Stadium at Fort Worth Brewer. That undefeated record was preserved on Friday night as the Pioneers denied a Brewer comeback to win 25-23.

Fort Worth Brewer got off to a good start as they drove down the field taking over four minutes off the clock capped off by a one-yard keeper by quarterback Carson Ingram to give Brewer the early 7-0 lead.

Saginaw Boswell moved quickly to answer, marching down the field before their drive stalled out at the Brewer 11. Conner Carrell kicked the field goal to make the score 7-3. After both offenses stalled out, the momentum would shift in the second quarter.

The Pioneers blocked a field goal and Breshun Berry took it all the way back for a touchdown. Running back Jay Garcia took it in for the two-point conversion to make it 11-7.

After a missed Boswell field goal, the Pioneers would strike again later in the second as Jay Garcia scored on a 15-yard run to make it 18-7, which would be the score heading into halftime.

Boswell came out confident in the second half but went three and out on their first drive. Brewer took 6 minutes off the clock while driving all the way to the 17-yard line setting up a Jorge Estrada field goal to make it 18-10. After forcing another Pioneer punt, it looked like the Bears would find momentum. But a Carson Ingram fumble at the end of the third quarter cost Brewer dearly.

Boswell quarterback Brayden Thomas would find Breshun Berry in the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown on fourth down to widen the margin to 25-10. Brewer would not go down easy as running back Christian Carlton ran it in from 29 yards to get the Bears back in the game with the score 25-17.

After both teams traded punts, Brewer had another chance with just under two minutes to go from the Boswell 14 yard line. Ingram hit Curtis Taylor as he strolled into the end zone to pull within two. However, the two-point conversion was no good and the score remained 25-23 with 1:28 to go.

After the Pioneers recovered the onside kick at midfield, they weren’t able to successfully run out the clock. The Bears moved the ball but an Ingram sack on the last play of the game near midfield ended Brewer’s chances.

“We have to play to the finish and never think it’s over,” sophomore Boswell quarterback Brayden Thomas said after the close win, “We were up at the beginning of the game but Brewer fought their way back and played well. We can never just expect that we’re going to win. We have to come out and play hard till the very end.”

Saginaw Boswell improves to 6-0 and will face Justin Northwest(4-2). Brewer falls to 4-2 and will face Saginaw Chisholm Trail(2-4).
