Four years ago, the freshman class entering Pleasant Grove in Texarkana were looking to turn around a program that had won just four games in the previous three seasons.

Under  head coach Josh Gibson, the Hawks have done that and more as they took down West Orange-Stark 41-21 to win their first state championship in program history.

The Hawks were able to jump out on the Mustangs early, thanks to the efforts of senior running back T.J. Cole. Cole took a pass from quarterback Ben Harmon and sprinted 75 yards to the house for an opening touchdown. He ended up with 181 total yards and three total touchdowns and thanks to his efforts, he was named the TexasHSFootball MVP presented by VCRNow.

The Hawks made history in Arlington on Friday night and now will have the chance to celebrate all the way back to Texarkana.

As the winner of the MVP award, Cole will receive a commemorative custom MVP football, a full scholarship to the Football University Camp of their choice as well as an image collage.
