Calhoun High School was forced to forfeit their Friday Night 55-7 victory over the Alice Coyotes for playing an illegible player. The Sandcrabs, Division 5-A, 3-2 (1-1), unintentionally played a student who was deemed ineligible because of a previous ejection from Calhoun’s game against Gregory-Portland.
“UIL rules indicate a player must sit out the first half of the next game of their team after an ejection. But Atwood said that Calhoun coaches had said they had received information he was eligible for the Alice game.” (KRISTV)
The ruling cost Calhoun a crucial game in the race for the top of their district standings. As with a loss, the Sandcrabs fall to the middle of the pack putting their playoff chances at risk.
