McMurry had no chance.
Looking to snap a seven-game losing streak over the weekend, the War Hawks were completely overwhelmed by Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys set a school record for points in a game by demolishing McMurry 91-29 in an American Southwest Conference encounter.
Senior running back Jaquan Hemphill, of Coleman, and junior quarterback Kyle Jones, of Giddings, guided Hardin-Simmons to the historic outing.
Jones completed all but six passes, going 17 of 23 for 362 yards and four touchdowns, while Hemphill eclipsed the record for career touchdowns with his 52nd. He had 52 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries.
Additionally, former Burkburnett standout Kolby Youngblood, a junior, had 109 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries, Rae Millsap, of Abilene, caught four passes for 128 yards, including the contest’s first score less than two minutes into the first quarter, and Georgetown’s Hunter Creasey led the squad defensively with 10 tackles, including three sacks.
In total, 10 players crossed the gaol line for Hardin-Simmons (6-2, 5-2).
The Cowboys scored points in the first quarter before taking a 49-0 lead into halftime. McMurry finally reached the end zone with 9 minutes, 23 seconds remaining in the third quarter to make the score 63-6.
