Smith chose the Sooners over his finalists of LSU, Florida State, Kentucky, and Oregon. Rated as the No. 6 in the nation at his position and No. 9 overall prospect out of Texas, Smith would bring powerful muscle to an already stacked OU defense.
In the 2019 season, Smith amassed 72 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles earning all-district honors.
Smith comes from an athletic background. His father was a college athlete at Memphis, his brother played football for Coppell before playing at Wisconsin, and his sister broke many records as a basketball player for Illinois before taking her talents to the WNBA.
