In the final game of non-district play for Montgomery and Oak Ridge, scoring on offense was the theme of the night.

Montgomery Wins Big

A touchdown was scored on the first eight possessions of the game, seven on offense and one by special teams, and all in the first half.

The Bears grabbed a big lead by halftime, on their way to a 62-32 victory.

Montgomery LogoMontgomery is undefeated after four games for the first time in a decade when it won nine games overall and made the playoffs. Oak Ridge falls to 1-4 as it goes into a much-needed bye week.

Montgomery scored early and often in 1st half

Montgomery quarterback Brock Bolfing threw three TD passes in the first half, two of them to Justin Herman. The junior had a 24-yard touchdown in the 1st quarter and a 32-yard run for paydirt in the second quarter.

Bolfing also found Maddox Plazek for a 49-yard score at the six-minute mark of the second quarter.

Bears senior running back Jalen Washington got the scoring started with a 2-yard TD run on the very first drive.

Late in the second quarter, the Bears blocked an Oak Ridge punt. Junior linebacker Kade Nuchia picked it up and ran it 38 yards for the score.

On the first drive of the game for Oak Ridge, the War Eagles took just one play to find the end zone. RB Frankie Arthur broke out down the left sideline for a 71-yard touchdown run.

Oak Ridge QB Ethan Rodriguez threw two TD passes in the 2nd quarter. The first went to Camden Morgan for 6-yards, and Tevian Jefferson hauled in a 10-yard TD pass. Both point-after attempts failed.

Oak Ridge failed to score on 4th and goal as the first half ended.

3rd Quarter Action

To start the 3rd quarter, Montgomery stopped yet another Oak Ridge drive with a pick-six. Korbin Ballenger stepped in front of the pass and Ballenger saw a field of green all the way to the other endzone for a 75-yard touchdown to increase their lead to 42-19

On Montgomery’s first possession of the 3rd quarter, the Bears orchestrated a 12 play that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run from running back Traven Lewis-Johnson.

Lewis-Johnson was the catalyst for another long drive to begin the fourth quarter by scoring his second touchdown, as he busted through the line for a 53-yard run for the Bear’s fifth touchdown.

The Bears really slowed things down as they built the lead.

4th Quarter Slow-Down

The 19 points for the War Eagles did not change until a couple of late scores. Arthur finished with 159 yards passing while Larry DeBose had 101 for Oak Ridge.

Halfway through the 4th quarter, Oak Ridge scored for the first time since the 2nd quarter. Rodriguez tossed his third TD pass of the night to Jaquale Harrison for 38 yards.

Braylan Harrell then scored on a 45-yard touchdown for Oak Ridge with three minutes left to play.

Winning Big

With less than a minute left, Ryder Adler added another score on a 34-yard scamper for the Bears.

Bolfing finished with 232 yards passing. Herman finished with two TDs and 96 yards. Lewis-Johnson gained 106 yards rushing for the game.

Montgomery opens district play at Fulshear at 7 p.m. next Thursday. After the bye week, Oak Ridge plays at Conroe on October 8th.
