5A Team of the Week: Burleson Centennial Spartans
Burleson Centennial faced a tall task last Friday as it looked to keep its undefeated season alive against Denton Ryan, the number three team in 5A Division I.
But behind a dominant ground game performance, the Spartans were able to pull off the upset.
Senior running back Elijah Zeh rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, while quarterback Phillip Hamilton added 42 yards on the ground.

With Centennial down 16-14, Hamilton scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 10-yard scamper in the third quarter before Spartan kicker Truitt Bosher tacked on a 29-yard field goal with just five minutes to go to give Centennial a 23-16 lead it would hold onto until the final whistle.
The win means Centennial is 6-0 for the first time in school history. It also was Denton Ryan’s first district loss since 2014.
However, the road isn’t getting any easier for the Spartans as they’ll have to take on another powerhouse in Aledo next week.
