Despite former frontman Jameis Winston being healthy, veteran and former Katy standout Andy Dalton will get the starting nod for the New Orleans Saints this Sunday.
Dalton started the last four games with the team, accounting for 946 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. Through the span, New Orleans has won a single contest.
“It’s an offensive decision,” coach Dennis Allen said in a teleconference today. “What I mean by that is in the last four weeks we’re one of the top offenses in terms of moving the ball, we’re one of the top offenses in terms of scoring points. That’s the name of the game.”
Dalton spent only one season with the Katy as their starter in 2005, getting the nod his senior year. He made his short time count: Dalton led the Tigers to the state finals, where they lost to Southlake Carroll, 34–20. For his graduating year, he threw for 2,877 yards and 42 touchdowns.
In college, Dalton stayed local, attending TCU, where he ended up being the program’s leader in wins and brought the Horned Frogs a Rose Bowl.
Now sitting at 2-5, New Orleans is one game out of the top spot in a relatively weak NFC South. They next host the underperforming Las Vegas Raiders at the end of the week.
